About
Miss Amy’s LLC is a Reggio-Emilia inspired preschool for children twenty-two months to seven years of age. Miss Amy's was founded in 1992 in the heart of historic Abingdon, Virginia. Our fully licensed center engages children in play-based learning as we believe our community is also our classroom and our teacher.
Child-led and child-centered learning through play and exploration shape our daily activities and projects. We are outdoors in all seasons, paying attention to nature's rhythms and cycles. We utilize creativity and approach all our learning adventures with a problem-solving mindset.
Inspired by the knowledge that 85% of brain development occurs between birth and age five, we are committed to nurturing the whole child socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. Miss Amy's is a Smart Beginnings partner and a participant in Virginia's Star Quality Initiative. This is a state-wide program working with communities to improve the quality of early childhood programs and to raise awareness of the critical importance of these precious early childhood years.

Teachers and Staff
Our teachers are the heart of our school. Our actions are guided by kindness, caring, and a deep understanding of what early childhood education involves.
We experience very low staff turnover as we know how important consistency is in the lives of young children. Our teachers have over seventy-five years of combined experience working with young children. All of our teachers attend at least thirty hours per year in professional development trainings because teachers are lifelong learners.
Additionally, our pre-K teacher is a licensed teacher in the state of Virginia with a certification in Pre-K through third grade.
We are committed to the Reggio style of teaching. Our director, Amy Bowie has attended an International Study Tour in Reggio Emilia Italy and stays connected to the constructiveness curriculum that is the Reggio Style thru professional organizations and connections to other Reggio schools.
